# 4839 / Antique SALITANO Sicilian Folder

Italy has an ancient tradition in knife making and a great variety in shapes and models with dozens of antique models dedicated to work, defence,  personal use; In some areas of Italy a knife could be also used as a token of love or as an engagement /wedding knife or a personal present. Italy has its identity as a unitary state only since 1861. The origin and the diffusion of traditional knives followed the ancient political and administrative division of the country that doesn’t coincide with the current division into regions.

This very nice folder is of Italian origin from Sicily

It  measures 18,5 cm long when closed and 34,5 cm long when fully extended.

The handle has been realized from a whole piece of horn with no supporting liners. The typical shoe by the end of the grip is made by a brass foil

It has a simple lock mechanism made with two pins one which represents the axis of rotation of the blade; the other - sometimes thinner - serving as a stop for the blade heel when the knife is opened.

The knife remains in excellent condition, normal overall pitting on the steel parts due to time.

Blade is pointy, sharp and opens and closes properly with no wobble in the locked open position. No damage to note to the handles
