long lock back deer stag folding knife was made by the renewed Joseph &
Rodgers Cutlery Company . same model pictured in the 1865 Rodgers catalogue. This
wonderful exemplar features deer stag scales with a nickel silver plaquette marked
J.E.Gubbins R .A ( Royal Artillery ).
Stands for Lieut John Egerton Gubbins
Born Kurnaul India 8th May 1840. Enlisted 1st Oct 1857 Royal Artillery. Retired
Lieutenant Colonel 1st Oct 1884.
The main blade is of the spare point type.
Accessories provided with this model are: corkscrew, pen blade, button hook,
punch and a hoof cleaner hook. The knife main body holds a pair of steel
tweezers an a steel toothpick.
Main blade is front marked " J.Rodgers
& Sons* transversally and *N°6 Norflok Str Sheffield* across the tang. The tang is
also back-stamped with the Maltese Cross and the Star symbol of the Rodgers
cutlery and *England*.
All blades and tools are in full profile and close
firmly with a snap. Overall pitting due to age. . This folder measures 24 cm
long when folded and 13,5 cm when main blade is out.
