19th Cent. Thomas Turner & Co Sheffield Multi-tool Sportsman’s Folder

Thomas Turner & Co made a large range of goods including table knives, saws, files and edge tools. Like some of the other larger cutlery firms, it also produced and forged its own crucible steel using imported Swedish bar iron. The company supplied the Navy with open razors and exported its knives across the British Colonies. In 1802 the Company was created and in 1805 Thomas Turner & Co bought the previously registered trademark *Encore* (from their catalogue). The firm's centenary was in 1902 - the year that Albert Hobson became Master Cutler - and the company decided to publish an anniversary pamphlet.

The type of knife we are offering was indicated as sportsman’s knife. The knife features a lock back main blade and the accessories include corkscrew, bradawl, screw driver, hook and a pen blade plus pull out tweezers and tortoiseshell cased fleam / blood letting tool. Main blade tang stamped * Thomas Turner & Co/ Sheffield *, the secondary blade is marked *Encore/ oil Joints*. The knife features horn scales with a central plaque for owner’s name.

The knife remains in very good conditions with normal wear commensurate with use and age. Please see pics for details. All blades/tools open and  close properly. No serious damage to note. This folder measures 15 cm long when folded and 25 cm when main blade is out.
