# 4704 / A Beautiful Early 20th Century Tortoise Shell And Silver Gilt Cigarette Case


A very fine quality cigarette case, c. 1890- 1900, Edwardian era. Steam-molded fine tortoise shell comprises each half of this double-sided case, which can hold cigarettes, cheroot, small cigars. It could also be used as card case, too, or to tuck some money and a credit card. The case is elegantly shaded in mostly chocolate brown with a bit of cognac showing through. It is mounted with chased silver gilt mounts. Length 10 cms. Depth 7.5 cms. The frame is inner stamped with the standard silver quality mark *800* plus maker’s lozenge. Hinges and parts are perfect and general condition is wonderful. Aside a tiny bug bite on the lid the tortoise shell remains in extra condition still glossy shine.
