# 3786 / Cylindrical Ghiacciato Glass Vase by Barbini. C1970

A beautiful tall cylindrical pale blue Murano glass vase featuring a ghiacciato finish with Barbini's signature incised on the bottom. Designer: Alfredo Barbini. Date of manufacture: late 60s early 70s. Height: 10.25 in (26 cm), diameter 6.25 in (16cm). Excellent condition with no chips or cracks. This glass is thus called due to it having an external surface that is cracked and coarse, like that of cracked ice. This decoration is obtained by dipping the blown glass which is still hot (800°C) in water for few seconds and then exposing it to the hot of the furnace again. The reaction which occurs, a sort of “puckering” , produces an “icy” effect. This process can be repeated several times if a more marked effect is required. This technique has been known since at least the XVIIIth century. PRICE ON REQUEST
