Italy has an ancient tradition in knife making and a great variety in shapes and models with dozens of antique models dedicated to work, defence, and duel. Knives were mostly used by men as multifunctional cutting and piercing tools, to be carried in their pocket and indispensable for all work activities in the fields and with the livestock. This boot shaped folder comes from Tuscany and most likely from the city of Pisa. It features a peculiar clip point blade with a single cutting edge. It is part of the large family of "primitive" folding knives, made with two pins one which represents the axis of rotation of the blade; the other - sometimes thinner - serving as a stop for the blade heel when the knife is opened. Handle is carved from a single piece of wood without a supporting liner and with a boot- shaped butt cap. Blade is in full profile and still pointy and locks up firmly. No chips or cracks to the handle. 12 cm folded and 21 cm in fully extended position
