Antique two bladed pocket knife featuring mother of pearl handles, a 3” ruler and a feeler gouge set of 8 blades. This folding knife was manufactured by the Sheffield cutlery firm Joseph Westby who specialized in pocket knives and the tool/ ruler makers *J.C. Chestrman* (both highly regarded companies). The Westby company started producing in the late 1880s. and incorporated the innovations of Stainless steel and plastic compounds into their manufacturing as these became available in the 20th century. This pocket knife still features carbon steel blades and mother of pearl handles dating it to the late 19th cent very Early 20th. The company manufactured pen knives, scissors and novelty items, with their specialty being ruler pen knives – the ruler either being engraved on the scales or folding out of the knife. The ruler is calibrated in both millimeters and inches and is signed *J. C. Chesterman Sheffield England*. The knife is completed by a feeler gouge set of 8 blades. Knives with feeler gauges are automobilist's or motorcyclist's knives which formerly were used to adjust the ignition points. The steel parts show normal overall pitting due to time. The mother of pearl slabs have wonderful pink and blue shadows and remain in perfect condition. The tool measure 9,5 cm folded.
